“Dancing Deliberation” (2026)
During my doctoral studies I have had the opportunity to explore improvisational dance, movement, and the practice of Embodiology® with Dr. S. Ama Wray in class and in community. I have grown a curiosity in drawing parallels between improvisational dance and deliberation in environmental governance. In both contexts, actors bring their own training and perspectives, ready to negotiate in a common medium or language. In governance, this could be a knowledge system, and in dance, a style’s movement vocabulary. But the collective goal is similar - to share, to learn, to spar, and to build something new.
In this video, I cut together clips from the U.S. Supreme Court case City and County of San Francisco v. EPA (2024), and overlay the deliberations over music by Sascha Ende. To this, I tap dance a piece I choreographed. This piece was created for and shared at the 4th Environmental Peacebuilding Conference in Ottawa, Canada.
